About Mr. Roughton:
Alan M. Roughton is an avid fan of barbecue, Star Trek, old maps, medieval European history, and trying to play golf. He is afraid of flying but has traveled around the world. He represents people in divorce but is engaged to get married-and looking forward to it! He also has remained loyal to his favorite Washington Redskins despite numerous mistakes they have made over the last two decades.
He once dreamed of a career in politics but later discovered that the affairs of state are better left to others and he should help individuals, so he went to law school. Mr. Roughton graduated cum laude from Vermont Law School in 2007. While there he was Managing Editor of the Vermont Law Review. Before going to
law school, he graduated magna cum laude from The George Washington University in Washington, DC with a degree in political science. His studies also took him to St. Petersburg, Russia. Despite his studies taking him to far-flung places, his roots are firmly in eastern North Carolina-the only place in the United States where the people consistently pronounce his last name correctly.
Mr. Roughton is a member of the Family Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, The Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce, Washington Noon Rotary, and the Kiwanis Club of Washington. He lives in Greenville.
